an Independent Montessori School on the North Coast
Where children from TK to eighth grade experience a transformative education in a prepared environment tailored to individual student needs while being part of a cohesive and nurturing community grounded in the Montessori principles of environmental stewardship, humanitarianism, global citizenship, and peace education.
Collaborative learning and service
Our collaborative learning and service program (CLSP) is designed for students exiting the MdMCS classrooms who wish to continue being a vital part of the Montessori del Mar learning community. This program is open to previous MdMCS students and their siblings only.
CLSP was created to allow for students moving to other educational programs to continue to learn alongside MdMCS students in an independent or mentor capacity. CLSP also offers opportunities for service which can be documented for high school graduation or college applications. Families whose children participate in CLSP continue to have access to the resources of the MdMCS learning community.
How might students participate in CLSP?
CLSP is tailored to each student’s schedule, needs and interests.
-
Students moving to an independent study or homeschool program can study and use MdMCS resources (like chromebooks, printers, art materials, WIFI, textbooks, etc) on-site.
-
Students wanting community service hours can pursue a myriad of opportunities on campus including assisting in the classrooms, being a counselor at summer camps, one on one tutoring, skill-sharing, and working in the kitchen or garden.
-
Students may participate in enrichment activities including Montessori Model United Nations, field trips, outdoor education (hikes, kayaking, fire science), after-school art and culinary, and more.
-
Students may join the MdMCS nutrition program (for a fee) which is an organic and vegetarian lunch service offered Monday through Thursday. Students must be on-site during lunch service (12:00-1:00).
-
Families are invited to all special school events including annual camping trips, fundraiser concerts, etc.
-
Parents qualify to serve as a MdMCS Board of Director.
-
Serves children ages 8 to 16 years.
-
All CLSP participants are supervised at all times when with MdMCS children and must adhere to strict behavior guidelines built on grace, courtesy and self-regulation and ensuring the safety of all.
How do I enroll my student in CLSP?
Students interested in CLSP must meet with the Director to design a plan and schedule that aligns with the needs and interests of the students.
Do students have to commit to a full year of CLSP?
CLSP structure is individually tailored. A timeline and commitment will be made that matches the needs and schedules of each student. The timeline/schedule can be adjusted at any time with the agreement of both parties.
What fees are involved in CLSP?
Fees are individualized based on program format, time spent on campus, and sliding scale. Fees may be designated monthly, weekly, daily or hourly. Fees for off-campus activities like Montessori Model United Nations, Alternative Education Week or Nature’s Classroom Institute will be established, invoiced and paid in advance. Fees cover resources/materials, adult supervision/support, and nutrition program (optional) and all go towards operations, staff and students of MdMCS.
